The United States defeated Napoli 2-1 at Vicente Calderon on Tuesday to lift the Europa League to a record fourth-straight campaign.
The United States had just one shot on target as they took a 2-0 lead into the break, but they levelled through a header from Angel Di Maria, and scored the equaliser through substitute Marcos Flores.
Napoli, meanwhile, were looking for their second successive win in Serie A, following a 4-0 defeat to Bologna last weekend.
However, the home side were punished for their wasteful finishing by the hosts.
Lucas Perez headed wide from a corner in the first half and Di Maria was also on target for the hosts after the break.
It was a difficult night for the home support as Napoli dominated possession and were largely in control of the game in the second half.
However the visitors’ hopes were cut short when a poor penalty miss from Alejandro Bedoya saw his effort deflect off the post and into the net.
Napolitano says ‘no-one can stop us’Ahead of the match, United States coach Jurgen Klinsmann gave his assessment of the home supporters after the game.
“You can’t stop us from playing, because the game is going to be a hard one.
We know that,” Klinsman said.”
They’re very passionate, but there is no way you can stop them.
We’ll have to fight for every point.
We have to keep playing and we’ll keep working hard.
That’s what we have to do.
We’ve had a very difficult few days but we have a great squad.
I think it’s a very strong team, and I think we can beat anybody.”
Klinsmann is expecting a difficult match on Wednesday night as the Americans take on the second-placed side of Croatia in the final.
