Faith Domergue has been in a religious situation for more than 20 years.
“My whole life has been a journey of hope,” she said.
“I’ve always been a person of faith, I’ve always believed in the power of God.”
For Domergues family and friends, faith means different things.
“Faith is something that has been taught in the church for a long time,” she says.
“The bible has taught us that we should be good to our parents, to our brothers and sisters, to people who we love.”
Domerguys father has two young children.
“They have all experienced that love and loyalty from their parents, they have seen that love for their family, they know that love is unconditional,” she explained.
“If that love doesn’t continue then it is not something that you should put any more faith into.”
“My father, his faith was so strong, he would say ‘you have to trust me’.
He would say, ‘trust me I’m going to save you’,” she said, adding her father was a Christian, but never told her that until recently.
“When my father told me that he was going to be God, he was really a very gentle person, he never told me he was a murderer, he just said ‘you can’t trust me’.” The family of two have been together for more then 10 years.
But despite all the good things in life, the family struggle to keep faith.
“We’ve been through the hard times of our life and our lives have been really hard,” Domerguer said.
While she is open to questioning her faith, she says she has to live with it.
“You’ve got to live it, you’ve got no choice but to believe, and it’s just the best thing for you to live,” she told 7.30.
“That’s the one thing that you don’t want to do is to get rid of faith.”
When Faith spoke to 7.15 about her life as a religious person, she said the following: “I have lived my whole life believing that I was good, I was safe, I had a loving father, I have faith that God loves me and I’m a good person.”
“I just hope that one day I don’t have to feel that way, I’m not going to have to believe that.
I’m just going to go with my gut and my instincts.”
The family also believes that faith is more than the belief in a deity, she explained, adding that faith can also mean something more than belief.
“There’s a lot of faith in a lot other people, you can also have faith in your parents and your brothers and your sisters and your family,” she added.
She said her family is not religious, but the family believes in the goodness of God.
“It’s a very important part of our lives and that’s why I love my family, because that’s where my faith comes from,” she concluded.
“Being a religious woman I’m more than happy to share that with people.”
